The iconic and well-respected Jing Fong opens a second location in the Upper West Side of Manhattan Wednesday. This outpost continues to serve the traditional Cantonese cuisine it’s been long celebrated for, and offers its famed dim sum all day.

This marks the first expansion for the Chinatown institution, which first opened its doors in 1978 and then moved to its current location at 20 Elizabeth Street in the early 90s, where it still operates as a massive 20,000 square foot restaurant and banquet hall serving authentic Cantonese cuisine and one of New York’s liveliest dim sum brunches.

The culinary operations at Jing Fong’s Upper West Side location is overseen by the restaurant’s team of highly skilled chefs. Guests can expect traditional dishes like Peking Pork Chop; Honey Walnut Prawns; Crispy Fried Chicken; and Cantonese Lobster, as well as mainstays like General Tso Chicken; Chicken and Broccoli; and Sweet and Sour Pork. Guests may also opt for vegetables like Eggplant in Garlic Sauce and Dry Sautéed String Beans, or noodles and rice dishes like Beef Chow Fun and House Wok Fried Rice to round out the meal. While the UWS location does not have roving dim sum carts – a coveted 10-seat Chef’s Counter offers guests views of the kitchen where they can watch as dim sum is cooked fresh throughout the day. Guests can enjoy a sweeping assortment of steamed and pan fried options such as Siu Mai; Crab, Shrimp and Spinach Dumplings; Vegetable Spring Rolls; and BBQ Roast Pork Buns, as well as sweet dim sum like Egg Tarts; Sesame Balls; and a Pineapple/Cranberry Bun, the latter a newcomer to the menu and exclusive to this location.

Jing Fong’s Upper West Side location promises an exciting beverage program to complement the fare. Choose from expertly crafted specialty cocktails like the Drunken Flower with bourbon, Chinese flower wine, mango juice and ginger beer; the JF with gin, Frangelico, apple juice, honey and lime; or the Spicy Girl with 12-year aged whiskey, lemon, sugar and fresh red chilies, among others. Jing Fong also offers a carefully curated assortment of wines and beer that are not found anywhere else in the neighborhood.

The 2,000 square foot space boasts a decidedly modern aesthetic in its design and celebrates the dynamic energy of a traditional Chinese dining experience. Situated on the corner of Amsterdam and 78th Street, Jing Fong’s façade is lined with floor-to-ceiling patio doors that bring an abundance of natural light into the bright and welcoming dining room. Inside, guests will find lantern-inspired hanging pendant lights and custom tiled honeycomb wall accents that are overlaid with decorative hand-carved wooden installations. Distressed red metal chairs add a pop of color against the reclaimed wood accents. The restaurant seats up to 50 in its main dining room—with 12 at the bar—and an additional 40 on the outdoor patio.
