Located adjacent to the newly remodeled Sierra Nevada Lodge, Jimmy’s Taverna brings the Mediterranean to the Mammoth Lakes region in California.

Owner Jim Demetriades and his wife Nancy worked together to bring their Greek heritage into this unique dining concept.

“We wanted to share the experience of the traditional taverna with guests and locals alike," Demetriades says. "Dinning in Greece brings people together to enjoy each other’s company and to eat and drink well, and that’s what we hope Jimmy’s will offer Mammoth Lakes.”

The menu includes a host of fresh dishes designed to transport guests to a Greek taverna worlds away from Mammoth Mountain. Guests can start their meal with Chef du Cuisine, Dympna Roman’s house-made grilled pita served alongside a choice of freshly made Greek dips. Mezedes (or Appetizers) include Domades, or stuffed grape leaves; Garides made with grilled shrimp, white beans, tomato oregano ragout, feta, and lemon preserves; Calamarakia, grilled calamari stuffed with Kefalograviera and Feta, grilled fennel, and tomato coulis. The taverna’s signature offering is Jimmy’s Wood Grilled Whole Fresh Fish. Other traditional entrée options include Moussaka, traditional casserole of spiced lamb, eggplant, potato, and yogurt béchamel; the Taverna Gyro, lamb, steak chicken or vegetables with caramelized onions, feta cheese, piquillo peppers, oregano Greek sea salt fries. Of course guests may also opt for a Greek menu classic, Souvlaki, which includes grilled vegetables, Cretan rice, tzatiki, and a choice of filet mignon, organic chicken, or lamb loin. Desserts include house-made Greek yogurt with fresh fruit and honeycomb; Baklava with phyllo, assorted nuts, fresh honey, lemon syrup served with vanilla ice cream; Galaktoboureko, vanilla bean custard, phyllo crust, lemon lavender sweet spoon.

A separate menu is served in the adjoining bar and both locales offer a California-centric wine list, artisan beers, and spirits. A seasonal cocktail menu was co-created with acclaimed mixologist of Red Medicine, Michael Mina. Cocktail menu highlights include Gold Rush, Redemption Rye, honey, and lemon; Blood and Sand, Bank Note 5 year, Cocchi di Torino, Cherry Herring, orange juice; Vesper, Jewel of Russia, City of London Gin, Cocchi Americano.

Guests entering the space will be greeted with a vibrant blue and yellow traditional Greek color palette and eye catching hanging taverna lights all surrounding a panoramic window with breathtaking views of the eastern sierra. Jimmy’s brings customary Greek al fresco dining to the winter getaway with its outdoor/indoor décor. The blue, yellow, and white colors that evoke the feel of a traditional taverna also reflect the colors of the sun, sky, and snow that surround this unique destination. The main dining room and bar feature an outdoor feel, while the secondary indoor dining room includes windows peering into the main dining room, with Greek plates hanging on the wall, and hand hewn hardwood floors. Keeping with the color scheme, the bar is made of Azul Macuaba, a blue and white stone imported from Brazil. An ideal retreat from a long day on the mountain, the space can also be rented out and transformed for special events.

Jimmy’s Executive Chef, Kerry Mechler, Chef du Cuisine, Dympna Roman, and Bar Smith/Head of Food & Beverage, Jack Carter, have worked with the Demtriades family to create an authentic, innovative menu and complimenting bar program to create a one of a kind  dining experience in Mammoth Lakes.

Jimmy’s Taverna is located at 248 Old Mammoth Rd., Mammoth Lakes, Calif., 93546. The taverna is open for dinner 5:00 p.m. to close, closed on Wednesdays. For more information visit: http://www.jimmystaverna.com/.
