Iced Tea is a Hot Beverage Trend

Over the last 20 years, iced tea has emerged in the beverage industry and is making a name for itself, becoming a staple in foodservice. According to the Tea Association of the U.S.A Inc., approximately 85 percent of tea consumed in America is iced.

Americans are drinking less soda, preferring something that is fresh, natural, and healthful. Young and old alike are becoming more conscious of what they put in their bodies, and for the beverage that complements their meal, they are increasingly turning to iced tea. Millennials are especially tuned in to tea, with 87 percent favoring tea as coffee consumption has steadily declined.

Restaurant professionals are responding by offering much more than traditional iced black teas. For example, Fired Pie, a growing fast-casual pizza and salad chain, offers patrons a choice of four fresh-brewed iced teas—traditional black, two flavored blacks, and one flavored green.

Why Iced Tea?

Iced tea is a low- or no-calorie drink providing many benefits, as it is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. As reported by the Tea Association of the USA, recent research has found health benefits of drinking tea include heart health, reduced risk of certain cancers and neurological diseases, possible prevention of age-related memory decline, and a reduced risk of osteoporosis.

High quality, premium iced teas boost loyalty and profits, delight guests, and differentiate restaurants from the competition.

Profit in Iced Tea

Foodservice providers know the importance of tracking the latest in beverage trends, as they are usually high-margin offerings. Iced tea provides just that. The difference between a premium iced tea and a run-of-the-mill iced tea is just pennies a glass.

Millennials are looking for healthier alternatives and a diet that provides them value. The spending power of this generation continues to increase, making it a critical time to capitalize on the products they are choosing, such as iced tea.

To guarantee success in your beverage sales, make sure your supplier provides on-trend products, innovative brewing equipment, specialized distribution, and good marketing support.
