Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries, a national retro-themed diner chain, opened its newest location in Elgin, South Carolina, on September 13. The new restaurant is located at 2558 Main St. in Elgin.
Hwy 55 is a diner with a full menu of American classics served in a fun, 1950’s dining atmosphere. It features fresh, never frozen, hand-pattied hamburgers, cheesesteak sandwiches, salads and a wide variety of milkshakes and frozen custards. Each location features a unique open kitchen in which customers can watch their meals being prepared.
The restaurant will be owned by brothers Doug and Clay Campbell. It will be the second Hwy 55 location owned by the brothers. The Campbells have operated the location in nearby Lugoff since September 2016. Elgin will be the fourth Hwy 55 in the Columbia metro region, joining Lugoff, Irmo and Lexington.
“We have been very fortunate to experience a great deal of success with our first restaurant in Lugoff and we believe Elgin would be a natural fit for the Hwy 55 brand,” says Doug Campbell. “Elgin is a rapidly growing area and we are excited to be able to serve the community in our restaurant or from our drive thru window at our stand-alone location.”
Hwy 55 opened its first restaurant in Goldsboro, North Carolina, in 1991. Elgin will mark its 16th location in the state of South Carolina.
