Houghton College has partnered with Metz Culinary Management to provide dining services for students, faculty, staff and guests, effective as of June 1.
Under the five-year agreement, Metz Culinary Management will implement signature food concept stations and provide catering services that reflect the close-knit culture of the college while enhancing the quality and variety of fresh, healthy and sustainable dining options.
Students and guests can also look forward to retail installments on campus at Big Al’s—named after the late Al Rehn, longtime food service manager at the college. Installments will include Poblano’s, a chopping block concept, and a coffee bar featuring local roaster Finger Lakes Coffee.
In addition to providing fresh and sustainably sourced ingredients, Metz Culinary Management was selected because of its mission to prioritize food, hospitality and family.
“Houghton is such a tight-knit community. Our concepts give us the flexibility to provide ingredients, preparation techniques and finished meals that bring a fresh approach to the food traditions of the school and town,” says Mark Carone, district manager. “Metz Culinary Management is dedicated to providing top-notch service and sustainably sourced ingredients to fit the needs of each institution we work with.”
Metz Culinary Management has begun operating dining services at the college’s Reinhold Campus Center dining hall. Original Metz signature food concept stations include:
Bravo, an open concept where chefs prepare a rotating selection of dishes in front of guests
Main Plate, offering a selection of classic favorites, contemporary gourmet selections, and specialty sandwiches
J. Clark's Grille, featuring house-grilled specialty burgers and hot sandwiches, wings, fries, and more
Villa Toscana, made-to-order Italian specialties including hand-prepared stromboli and pizza and fresh pasta
Salad Sensations, which features fresh and local items for salads and sides
“From the moment Metz entered the bid process through the transition this summer, the Metz team has delivered world class quality, care and a focused attention to detail. The staff, chef and leadership all understand Houghton’s mission and calling to provide the highest quality living and learning experiences for our students and community,” says Rob Pool, vice president for student life & dean of students, Houghton College.
