Michelin today revealed a list of 75 restaurants in the greater San Francisco area that received its highly regarded Bib Gourmand designation that represents establishments that offer excellent food at a reasonable price.

In its forthcoming 2017 guide for the Bay Area region, Michelin has included 12 restaurants that are new to the list, including locations in the South Bay, East Bay, Napa Valley, Marin, and Peninsula.

Bib Gourmand restaurants are selected by Michelin's famously anonymous food inspectors who choose restaurants serving high quality food on their menus and make it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included). Most telling about these selections is the fact that they are very often the same restaurants that the Michelin food inspectors frequent themselves when off the clock.

Michelin released the list of these more affordable fine-dining Bib Gourmand locations a week prior to the market debut on of the MICHELIN Guide San Francisco Bay Area & Wine Country 2017 on Tuesday, October 25. This will mark the 11th edition of this famous dining guide for the city and surrounding urban area.

This year's list of 75 eateries stretch across a sizable geographic area and include these new comers: Aina (Mission), Bravas (Sonoma County), The Bywater (South Bay), Del Popolo (Financial District) Lai Hong Lounge (North Beach (Mission),  Nopalito (Civic Center), Okane (Soma), SHED Café (Sonoma Country), Tacos Sinaloa (East Bay), Tsubasa (Civic Center), Two Birds/One Stone (Napa Valley,) and Village Sake (Marin).

As stated, the Bib Gourmands are selected by Michelin's inspectors who dine in anonymity at restaurants across the region. These local inspectors are trained to scrupulously apply the same time-tested methods used by Michelin inspectors for many decades throughout the world. This ensures a uniform, international standard of excellence. As a further guarantee of complete objectivity, Michelin inspectors pay all their bills in full.
