The Coastside’s family-and dog-friendly destination for craft beer and local seafood has a lot to celebrate this June, including the release of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s 1000th batch of beer by brewmaster James Costa, the second annual Brazil Night featuring live samba music and a guest chef, and Father’s Day specials including smoked pork ribs and a complimentary pint glass for dads.

Brazil Night (Friday, June 14)

Brazil Night at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company was such a success last year that chef Gaston Alfaro has decided to host another on June 14. For one night only, Chef Alfaro will welcome a special guest to his kitchen: Brazilian chef Marx Passos, former chef to the 1994 World Cup-winning Brazilian Soccer Team and currently chef and owner of Novato Cafe. Chef Passos' menu will be offered beginning at 5 p.m. and will include specials such as Feijoada, a black bean stew with pork, beef and linguiça, served with garlic rice, collard greens and roasted coarse cassava flour; and Mocqueca de Camarao (Brazilian Shrimp Stew), prawns cooked in palm oil and a splash of coconut milk with fresh onions, tomatoes and cilantro, served with garlic rice and collard greens. Singer Liza Silva and her band Voz do Brasil will take to the stage in the bar from 7 to 10 p.m., performing the traditional music of the Brazilian repertoire: Samba, Bossa Nova, Afro-Samba, Forro, Samba-Pagode, Samba-Reggae, Lambada, and Carnival styles.

Father’s Day (Sunday, June 16)

Daniel Castro will be playing the blues with his band from 5 to 9 p.m., and every dad who orders an entrée at the restaurant will be treated to a complementary Mavericks Beers and Ales pint glass while supplies last.

1000th Batch of Beer Release Party (Tuesday, June 18)

James Costa, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s new brewmaster, has been busy since he arrived on the Coastside a couple of months ago, including creating the Brewing Company’s 1000th batch of beer. A bright, Belgian-style ale with hints of lemon that is perfect for summer, this beer was brewed in collaboration with former colleague and close friend Arne Johnson, brewmaster of Marin Brewing Company. Officially named Citron Blonde, this beer’s citrusy character comes from four pounds of lemon peel, lemon verbena, and Buddha’s Hand fruit that was added to the brew kettle during the boil. The 1000th Batch of Beer Release Party will take place in the bar of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company from 5 to 7 p.m. The Citron Blonde will be available on tap at both Marin Brewing Company and the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company starting Father’s Day weekend until it is sold out.
