Hai Hospitality announced today that the doors of their second Uchiko outpost will open to the public in the Zadok’s Post Oak Place, 1801 Post Oak Blvd Suite 110, Houston, TX 77027 on May 23, 2022. This location marks the first location to open outside of the original Uchiko, which opened in Austin in 2010.  This is the third Hai concept to launch in Houston, joining Uchi (2012) and Loro, which opened in February of this year.

Uchiko Chef de Cuisine Shaun King lays a defining foundation for Uchiko with a menu displaying robust flavors infused with smoke and hints of char balanced by the fresh and clean profile that is the hallmark of its sister concept Uchi. The yakitori grill will be front and center, using post oak and binchotan wood to employ multiple smoking and curing techniques for both hot and cold preparations. Chef King came to Texas last year from Portland, Oregon, and joined the Hai family with an impressive resume that includes Momofuku Las Vegas, Mina Group’s Ramen Bar, and The Dawson in Chicago.  He is looking forward to opening Uchiko’s doors in Houston to showcase the creative preparations of this “hearth centric” brand.

“We’ve been experimenting a lot with charring and juicing vegetables, and the use of smoke to strike a balance between bold and more delicate flavors. The Dry Aged Duck is rich, delicate, and smoky, and I think it is representative of the evolution of the Uchiko concept,” says King.
