At the end of its second year, Breadcrumb, a division of Groupon that was founded in January of 2011, released an upgrade to its iPad point-of-sale (POS) service for restaurants, bars, and cafes.

Breadcrumb 1.2 makes daily operation faster and easier for servers, bartenders, and managers, with features that were created in response to interviews with merchants and insights from millions of restaurant, bar, and café transactions.

The recently released Breadcrumb 1.2 includes a “smart swipe” feature for credit card payments that automatically opens a tab in the cardholder’s name, recalls an open tab, or processes payment without having to type in more information or navigate extra steps.  Breadcrumb 1.2 also provides faster PIN-based access to terminals with fewer keystrokes and a simplified process for complex charges—for instance, it is now easier to split a balance evenly across a number of cards or across a combination of cash and cards. Additionally, the upgraded technology facilitates rapid order entry, including new single-touch order modifications for customizations such as cooking temperature.

Breadcrumb was founded in January 2011 by a team of restaurant industry veterans to provide an easy-to-use and affordable iPad POS service for food and beverage businesses.
