Brat Haus, a popular Scottsdale, Arizona beer garden that specializes in European-style sausages and traditional Bavarian pretzels, recently announced the opening of its second Valley location in partnership with Steve Stone, a former Major League Baseball player, legendary broadcaster, and restaurateur.

The new location, nestled in Phoenix at 6025 N. 16th St., is a condensed version of Brat Haus’ flagship restaurant in Scottsdale. Brat Haus first debuted in the community in 2012 and became a fast favorite as an open-air patio serving traditional Bavarian pretzels, a variety of brats, and expertly chosen imported craft beers.

With an adult-casual approach at the Phoenix location, guests will order at the counter and can expect their meals within minutes. If this new service style is successful, owner Dave Andrea says it will be the prototype for future expansions.

“My initial vision for Brat Haus was fit to the quick service model and while Scottsdale has flourished without it, we’re excited to try something different with Phoenix,” says Andrea. “Our plan is to expand aggressively after this opening and we already have eyes on other communities in the Valley where we want to bring this to life.”

To test the model, Andrea enlisted the help of Stone who is no stranger to Phoenix’s food scene and has a stake in 32 restaurants nationwide.

“Brat Haus has everything that makes a concept successful, especially from a national perspective,” says Stone. “Its quality house-made dishes are served quickly and by friendly staff. I see the brand scaling in the near future. With my guidance and Brat Haus’ brand, this partnership is a perfect fit.”

Aside from his culinary ventures, Stone is also an American League All Star and 1980 AL Cy Young Award winner who played for the San Francisco Giants, the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Cubs, and the Baltimore Orioles. Today, Stone is the color commentator for the White Sox television broadcasts, where he’s been for more than a decade.

With the new location opening late June, the brand has already set its sights on the future with plans to expand across different Phoenix cities using the adult-casual approach.

Because the new direction is based upon the counter service model, it gives the brand room to mold itself to any environment, whether that is airports or stadiums and anything in between.  With more than 30 years of experience creating concepts in the area, Andrea wants to maximize this potential and bring the high-quality brats and pretzels to all of the major Phoenix neighborhoods.
