Eastern Food Safety, a leader in food safety education, has launched a new website devoted to a unique series of online training videos for all aspects of the foodservice industry.

The website, www.easternfoodsafetyonline.com, offers the nationally recognized ServSafe training program in a unique instructor-led online certification course that prepares industry professionals for the mandated food safety exam.

There are also online Food Safety Workshops and newly created “Food Safety Show and Tell” kitchen demonstrations for food workers.

The Online Eastern Food Safety trainings are unique in that they are instructor led, trackable, and offer self-tests and Certificates of Completion.

The program allows participants to self-study at their own pace from the convenience of home or work via online training video (cloud DVD.)

The online program is taught by Cindy Rice, RS, CPFS, and certified ServSafe instructor. Rice is a member of the National Restaurant Association, the American Culinary Federation, and the International Association of Food Protection. She currently serves on the Massachusetts Department of Education's Lifeskills Advisory Council and the Partnership for Food Safety Education.

Rice holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Bates College, and a master of science degree in public health from the University of Massachusetts School of Public Health, Amherst.

In addition to her work with Eastern Food Safety in the areas of instruction, certification, writing, and public speaking, she is a national food safety expert for ECOLAB. She has also launched a series of books aimed at educating parents and children ages 3–10 in the all-important topic of food safety. “Green Apple Tales” is based on USDA and FDA guidelines.

Prior to founding Eastern Food Safety, she worked as an owner/operator of multiple foodservice operations and International Brownie, Inc, which she sold in 2001.

Rice holds numerous certifications, including Certified Professional in Food Safety; Registered Sanitarian; Certified Environmental Health Technician; Certified ServSafe Instructor; and Certified HACCP Manager.

“We believe online training is set to change the way we train the workforce of the food industry. Training new and existing employees in the proper and safe ways to prepare and handle food has been a cumbersome responsibility for restaurant and institutional food managers,” Rice says. “Online training is convenient and effective, and we look forward to expanding our line of course offerings to meet the demand.”
