Airports Council International-North America announced the winners of its Excellence in Airport Concessions Awards at the 2017 Business of Airports Conference in Palm Springs, California, awarding The Country Cat Dinnerhouse & Bar first place recognition in the ‘Best New Local Concept’ category. The Country Cat debuted in April 2015 in partnership with Andale Management Group, a growing airport restaurant concession group based in San Francisco, California.
Located at Portland International Airport (PDX), The Country Cat serves up made-from-scratch dining experiences that embody American craft cooking. Husband and wife chef team Adam and Jackie Sappington opened the first Country Cat East of Downtown Portland in 2007, offering a menu that reflects the ever-changing culinary landscape of American heritage cuisine, featuring classic dishes from Chef Adam's Midwest country roots, recreated with Northwest style and ingredients. Cementing itself as a favorite among locals, The Country Cat expanded to PDX through a partnership with Andale Management Group. The Country Cat is focused on providing hungry travelers with many of the same made-from-scratch menu specialties featured in its neighborhood restaurant, with an eye to speed of service, due to the needs of airport diners.
“We’re incredibly honored to be acknowledged by the ACI-NA, an organization we deeply admire for its tireless mission to better airport services and experiences,” says Pedro Alvarez, President of Andale Restaurant Group “We look forward to playing our role in this mission by continuing to expand our foot print to airports across the country.”
ACI-NA also presented the Richard A. Griesbach Award for Excellence, recognizing an outstanding overall concession program, to PDX.
“The ACI-NA Excellence in Airport Concessions Awards recognize the most innovative and outstanding airport concessions, and Portland International Airport is a great example of the impressive work airports are doing to improve the passenger experience,” says ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke.
Located in the PDX North Lobby Concessions Court, adjacent to the security checkpoint where concourses D and E meet, The Country Cat is strategically positioned to welcome Delta, United, Frontier, Hawaiian, Icelandair, Spirit, Sun Country, Virgin America and Volaris passengers. It's dynamic, contemporary architecture capitalizes on beautiful views of the north side of the airport and the Columbia River, which runs between the states of Oregon and Washington. The Country Cat also features a very visually appealing and successful "Grab & Go" facility with specialty items and snacks created by the Sappingtons.
