Refined flavors and comfortable lodging will combine in June with the opening of Mr. Roberts Resort in Pengilly, Minnesota.
Mr. Roberts Resort is a combination of a full service restaurant, bar, cabins, and RV sites, situated on Swan Lake in Northern Minnesota. The restaurant and cabins all have views of the lake, west-facing for enjoying sunsets, and look out towards a lawn and beach.
The restaurant at Mr. Roberts Resort has a 90-seat, supper club-style setting with a contemporary feel serving up modern Midwestern cuisine. Menu specialties will include macaroni & cheese-stuffed meatloaf, smelt fries, venison stroganoff, and various items smoked on property in the old world, brick smokehouse.
"This has been a dream of mine for a very long time," says owner Chef Sarah Master. "I've always wanted a place to showcase the food I grew up eating in a more modern style. The backdrop of the lake and the wilderness is just bonus for my cooking."
The restaurant will offer a full bar with classic cocktails and an eclectic wine list. A large number of menu items will be available for grab-an-go to cater to boating customers.
Banquet space is offered in either of the two dining rooms, and with lodging available, events such as weddings, receptions, and reunions are welcome. Summer development plans include outdoor seating to offer lake views.
Chef/owner Sarah Master is a Pengilly native who started cooking professionally in her early twenties after a move to New Orleans opened her eyes to the restaurant scene. She graduated from Delgado Community College and moved back to Minneapolis to pursue a job as an executive chef.
After cooking at several James Beard-winning restaurants around the Twin Cities, she landed a job heading up the kitchen at Barbette, an eclectic French bistro in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis.
"Bringing my knowledge and experience back to the people who supported me throughout my life is my main focus,” Chef Master says.
