The results are in, and Buffalo's Cafe's second annual ‘Fight Takes Flight’ benefit for the fight against cancer was officially a success. The 2011 Fight Takes Flight fundraiser brought in $40,000, exceeding last year’s amount by $5,000 and meeting the goal set for 2011.
All stores were successful in their efforts, especially South Georgia’s Macon store, which raised the most money with a total of $7,200. The award for most improved was given to the Loganville, Georgia, store, which saw a 580 percent increase from last year.
And congratulations to the server at the Rome, Georgia, store that raised the most money systemwide. He won a five-day and four-night Carnival cruise for two!
More than 10 stores were successful in raising more than $1,000.00. The following stores surpassed their 2010 donations:
Athens, Georgia; Canton, Georgia; Canyon, Texas; Cartersville, Georgia; Coral Springs, Florida; Griffin, Georgia; Hamilton Mill, Georgia; Loganville, Georgia; Macon, Georgia; Raleigh, North Carolina; Rome, Georgia; and Woodstock, Georgia.
A huge thank you and congratulations should be given to all Buffalo’s locations for their efforts in the fight against cancer. In Georgia alone, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Because of this, Buffalo’s requested Winship Cancer Institute use the money where it is most needed.
Winship Cancer Institute is Georgia’s first and only National Cancer Institute designated cancer center, and is recognized as one of the top 50 cancer centers in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. The institute serves as the coordinating center for a vast array of resources in medicine, surgery, radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, and the subspecialties of cancer care throughout Emory University.
In expressing the importance of Buffalo’s involvement in this fundraiser, COO Shaun Curtis says, “The support and involvement from the community has been exceptional. Employees and guests of the restaurant shared their personal stories of struggle with cancer and were happy to involve themselves in raising money and awareness for the cause. It is an honor for our organization to be a part of something so special.”
