NTN Buzztime, Inc., a leading social entertainment and integrated marketing platform for bars and restaurants, challenged its network of thousands of bar and restaurant customers to compete head-to-head answering sports, art, history, and pop culture bar trivia questions. Buzztime is now pleased to announce the top winners in the company’s second round of regional competitions in the quest to crown the Smartest Bar.

Spanning 10 different time zones across the U.S. and Canada, thousands of trivia buffs played this bar game every Wednesday night throughout September in their pursuit of crowning their favorite watering hole the Smartest Bar.

Participants were quizzed to see if they could provide the right answers to questions in the following categories: The Sciences, The World, The Shows, The Past, The Games, and The Arts.

“Buzztime definitely brings in new customers to our establishment and keeps them there,” says Kent Tieche, owner of the Park Bar & Grill, Burbank, California. “The Smartest Bar promotion has brought in a whole new group of players every Wednesday night. In fact, many of these players are coming in on Tuesday’s to practice for the Smartest Bar weekly trivia contests. This is the first time we’ve noticed this surprising trend!”

“With Buzztime’s Smartest Bar competition on Wednesday nights, we have seen an increase in new customers participating and our regular players are staying longer,” say Rosie and Henry Dunn, owners of Hero’s Sports Pub and Restaurant, Mesa, Arizona. “The players enjoy being part of a team that battles other locations, and really get a kick out of seeing their team name in the Top 10.”

Bars with the top three scores in the regional rounds advance to this month’s finals. The high scores were determined by the location’s average of the top five players’ scores.

In addition, Buzztime awards a Wildcard spot for each of the 10 regions to those bars that have the highest participation or cumulative total points. The top regional winners in the latest 2011 round of competition are:

  • MST 1 – Buffalo Wild Wings, Phoenix, Arizona
  • CST 1 – Big Guys, Winnipeg, Canada
  • CST 2 – Teasers, Chicago
  • CST 3 – Heroes, Wichita, Kansas
  • CST 4 – Buffalo Wild Wings, El Paso, Texas
  • EST 1 – Adams Mill Restaurant, Manchester, Connecticut
  • EST 2 – Willie's Sports Café, Cincinnati
  • EST 3 – 4thStreet Bar and Grill, Columbus, Indiana
  • EST 4 – Varsity Grill & Bar, Tallahassee, Florida

The winners are invited to participate in the Smartest Bar finals taking place this month when the winning bar will be crowned. This bar promotion is the latest in a long line of programs in which Buzztime is helping its bars increase guest visits and create an event during slower weeknights that keeps consumers staying longer and spending more.
