With breast cancer rates on Long Island continuing to sit well above the national average, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers’ recognizes the need to support organizations that screen for and treat the disease. As such, during the month of October—National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the company held its Second Annual “Cancer Ain’t Kosher” fundraiser in support of Winthrop-University Hospital’s Breast Health Center’s “The Angel Fund.” As part of the fundraiser, customers at each of Ben’s seven locations had the opportunity to upgrade Ben’s famous Matzo Ball Soup to include a Pink Matzo Ball, for an additional $1 charge, the full proceeds from which were donated to the program’s fund.  

After breaking a personal goal of doubling last year’s sale of just over 1,300 pink matzo balls, Hal Simon, Manager of Ben’s of Bayside and organizer of the fundraiser, and Ronnie Dragoon, founder/owner of Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers presented the Winthrop-University Hospital Breast Health team with a check for $3,025 during a special event on Tuesday, December 6. This year’s fundraising efforts were further supported through a friendly inter-store competition, during which each Ben’s location throughout New York metro, and in Boca Raton, Florida, worked to get the winning title of “Most Pink Matzo Balls Sold.” The winning store was Ben’s Greenvale location.
