Bulldozers recently went to work clearing the way for the second Jimmy Changas restaurant, located on 2.2 acres on Highway 646 in the Victory Lakes Development in League City, Texas.
With a successful first restaurant in Pasadena, Texas, Jimmy Changas is part of the Houston-based restaurant group behind Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen and Bullritos. Slated to open in the late fall of 2012, the new Jimmy Changas was designed by concept developer Craig Schuster.
Schuster, with interior designer Stephanie Fernandez, designed the first Jimmy Changas location and incorporated the “Fresh.Mex.Fun.” theme throughout the look of the restaurant.
“With access to such a major freeway, this second restaurant will be able to serve people traveling to and from Houston and Galveston,” says Russell Ybarra, president and owner of Jimmy Changas and Gringo’s.
“We’re putting Jimmy on the map and are very excited that this will take him to the next level.”
“Jimmy,” the restaurant’s mascot, is taken from the logo and personified into an excitement-driven, fun-hearted monkey who engages guests via the restaurant's Facebook page. With one location and only 15 months in business, Jimmy currently has a Facebook fan base just shy of 5,000 and growing daily.
The original Jimmy Changas in Pasadena was conceived as a family hot-spot for local and surrounding communities. Dubbed a “palatial Tex-Mex restaurant” by the Houston Press, it’s the perfect venue for families with small children.
Complete with a “Jimmy’s Jungle” playground for little ones, the restaurant caters to busy families looking for great food at reasonable prices. The recent addition of new signage in front of the restaurant has driven traffic and created a buzz within the local community.
With an expansive bar area and custom drinks such as the ever-popular “Chunky Monkey” made with fresh bananas, Jimmy Changas is cultivating a large following — both local and regional, and attracts hundreds of followers on both Facebook and Twitter.
The new League City location will follow the same business model, offering unique specialty dishes such as Chile Rellenos, Stuffed Avocados, Dirty Tostados, a Seared Ahi Tuna Salad, homemade soups, and a delicious white chile con queso — just to name a few local favorites.
