Two-dozen staff members from Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in New York City will volunteer their time on Monday, September 9 to assist in the construction of a mortgage-free, custom-built home for injured veteran, USMC Sergeant Gregory Caron.
On November 12, 2011, USMC Sergeant Greg Caron was on patrol in the Southern Marjah area of Afghanistan searching known Taliban compounds. Sergeant Caron was severely wounded when a bomb exploded and as a result he lost both legs immediately and still does not have full use of his right arm. Building Homes for Heroes recently began work on a mortgage-free, customized home for Sergeant Caron and his wife, Nina, in Ellington, Connecticut.
The Del Frisco’s team will be landscaping, assembling American flags, painting and cleaning the house to prep it for final presentation for the Caron family, which is scheduled for September 28, 2013.
Building Homes for Heroes is a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2006 that provides individuals, corporations, and others with an opportunity to help our severely wounded and disabled veterans and their families rebuild their lives. Building Homes for Heroes is committed to supporting those who have returned home from the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan with severe wounds and disabilities, with a goal to build homes for families in dire need. These mortgage-free homes not only help to remove the family’s financial burden, they help to restore the individual’s freedom, and enable the veteran to lead a more independent and productive civilian life. Building Homes for Heroes encourages the wounded veterans who have received assistance to travel to events and take part in other organizational endeavors. Because these men and women are service-oriented individuals, they are pleased to support other Afghanistan and Iraq war veterans who have been severely injured. This enables the veteran to take another step toward being defined by their activities and not their injuries or disabilities.
