Himmel Hospitality Group announced the promotion of Chef Eric Brennan to culinary director of its three restaurants: Grill 23 & Bar, a Boston institution, Post 390, an urban tavern in Back Bay, and Harvest Restaurant, a culinary icon that recently celebrated 40 years in Cambridge. In this new position, Brennan is responsible for overseeing menu development, planning, sourcing, and event coordination for each of the three restaurants.

“It’s been a pleasure to watch Eric grow and contribute to Himmel Hospitality Group over the years,” says Chris Himmel, executive vice president. “His experience within the kitchen allows him to bring a tremendous amount to the table with his culinary ability, leadership, and innovation. We’re confident that his vision, combined with his strong mentoring abilities, make this next step a natural fit for the team and for Eric’s career with our organization.”

After 12 years with the Four Seasons Hotel, Brennan landed back in Boston in 2000 as executive chef at The Federalist, as well as Himmel Hospitality Group’s Harvest Restaurant. In 2009, he served as executive chef of the opening team at Post 390. Brennan, known for his deep-rooted relationships with farmers and local purveyors, pioneered the restaurant’s Farm to Post program, a bi-monthly rotating menu created with the featured farm’s best available products. The program gives restaurant guests the opportunity to experience the various farms Post 390 relies upon within the region.

“I’m proud to be part of these iconic restaurants,” Brennan says, “and to work with such a talented and creative culinary team.”

Nick Deutmeyer, who also began his career with Himmel Hospitality Group at Harvest Restaurant, has been promoted to the position of chef de duisine at Post 390 as Brennan transitions to his new role. Deutmeyer will be responsible for the restaurant’s menu development and will take over the popular Farm to Post program in the New Year with Brennan’s support.
