Chicago's Green City Market will host top chefs from around the country when it opens for the 17th season May 2.

Green City Market, located in Lincoln Park, provides organic and sustainably raised products for more than 200,000 shoppers annually including Chicago's top chefs, residents, and visitors.

In honor of the 2015 James Beard Foundation Awards, visiting chefs will gather and be joined by Chicago's chef community at Green City Market beginning at 9:30 a.m. The market opens at 7 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday.

Green City Market board members and fellow past James Beard Award winners Sarah Stegner (Prairie Grass Cafe and co-president of Green City Market board), Carrie Nahabedian (Naha and Brindille), and Bruce Sherman (North Pond) are the hosting chefs.

Tastings of Abby's Crepes and Jared Batson's Nomad Food Co.'s wood fired pizza can be enjoyed as the chefs browse and shop the market's fresh and fabulous ingredients.

"It is quite an honor for the Beard Awards to be taking place in Chicago," Stegner says. "As this is the first time the Awards are being held outside of New York City, it clearly indicates that Chicago is recognized as a world-class culinary center. Green City Market is considered one of the top green markets in the United States, and we think it is an especially appropriate place to honor the occasion.”
