Chef Daniel Patterson Honored for Work With Homeless Youth

Larkin Street Youth Services will honor Chef Daniel Patterson for his commitment to Larkin Street and homeless youth during Larkin Street's Paving the Way gala March 4.

Chef Patterson—a James Beard Foundation award-winning chef, restaurateur, and food writer—has supported Larkin Street by teaching youth cooking skills.

Chef Patterson's work with Larkin Street youth inspired him to found The Cooking Project, a charity dedicated to giving children and young adults the skills to feed themselves delicious and healthy food. These cooking classes are held every other Monday at the San Francisco Cooking School.

Chef Patterson is known for his four restaurant locations in the Bay Area including the two Michelin starred Coi and Alta CA in San Francisco as well as Plum Bar + Restaurant and Haven in Oakland. In spring 2014, Coi was recognized among the World's 50 Best Restaurants and Daniel was awarded Best Chef: West by the James Beard Foundation.

In 2015, he and Los Angeles Chef Roy Choi will open the first location of a new type of fast food chain, Loco’I. Loco'l aims to redefine the fast food system and will offer affordable, wholesome food in food deserts.

Larkin Street's Paving the Way event raises funds for San Francisco's homeless and at risk youth ages 12-24. The gala will be held at the Four Seasons San Francisco March 4.
