Cavatina, located inside the Sunset Marquis hotel in California, announced Jonathan Kim as executive chef. Chef Kim brings more than 10 years of industry and culinary management experience to his role, including his position as executive sous chef at Cavatina for the past year. Kim joins decorated chef and restauranteur Michael Schlow, who developed the original concept for Cavatina, his first West Coast venture. Both chefs will collaborate to bring exciting new menu changes to Cavatina over the coming months.

Sunset Marquis’ general manager, Rod Gruendyke, is excited to see Chef Kim’s culinary creativity thrive at Cavatina as new executive chef. “We are excited for Chef Kim to bring a fresh outlook to the culinary landscape of Los Angeles. His experience and unique approach to cuisine will lend itself to introducing new and inspired dishes to Cavatina,” Gruendyke says.

Renowned chef Michael Schlow is pleased that Chef Kim will continue his vision of locally produced California dishes with simple yet bold flavors. “I’ve enjoyed collaborating with Chef Kim over the past year, and am thrilled that he will lead the team in bringing a dynamic perspective to Cavatina’s menu of seasonal, modern cuisine.”

Chef Kim began his career at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Los Angeles, and later continued his professional career at notable restaurants Water Grill, Providence, and Bashan. Inspired by his family ties in the culinary industry, Chef Kim credits cooking as being a creative tool in which individuals are able to experience his passion and personality through food.

Chef Kim hopes to implement new flavors into the Cavatina menu as a way for guests to fully appreciate all of what Los Angeles has to offer. Chef Kim says, “Los Angeles is a melting pot of many cultures and flavors. My vision is to combine some of those flavors with my Korean American background into Cavatina’s menu.”
