Chef Demitri Moshovitis of Cava Mezze swept the Washington D.C. Lamb Jam, securing first place across three categories: “Best in Show,” “Best Mediterranean,” and “People’s Choice.” Sponsored by the American Lamb Board, the event drew more than 500 hungry fans to Union Market to taste globally inspired lamb dishes prepared by 17 of the capital’s finest chefs.

A panel of judges blind-taste tested the 17 different lamb dishes, declaring the following winners in each category:

  • Best in Show, Best Mediterranean, and People’s Choice: Chef Demitri Moshovitis of Cava Mezze – Lamb Shoulder Half-Smoke, Cava-Inspired Lamb Shoulder Chili, Mustard Tzatziki, Marinated Onion on a Brioche Bun
  • Best Asian: Matt Baker of City Perch Kitchen + Bar – Malaysian Lamb Rendang with Coconut Rice and Rose Water-Mint Tonic
  • Middle Eastern: Austin Fausett of Trummer’s On Main – Persian-Spiced Lamb Shank with Shirazi Salad, Couscous & Labneh
  • Latin American: Adam Howard of Pepita – Sangre de Cristo Filled Lamb Ribs, Refried Black Beans, Corn Salad, Preserved Lime Puree

Chef Demitri Moshovitis will join the winners of Boston, Austin, and Seattle Lamb Jams (Chef Tiffani Faison of Sweet Cheeks Q, Chef Ysaguirre of Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile, and Chef Brett Teegardin of Purple Cafe & Wine Bar) as well as the future winner of San Francisco’s Lamb Jam, to compete for the title of “Lamb Jam Master” in New York City this September.
