Matchbox American Kitchen + Spirit has officially opened its first-in-Florida location at Sawgrass Mills. The D.C. restaurant made its debut with a two-day dining preview to benefit Feeding South Florida and a packed VIP grand opening party.

“Matchbox has fired up the grills and ovens to welcome family and friends to experience our famed American fare,” says Peter D’Amelio, chief executive officer at matchboxfoodgroup. “We are proud to now be a part of the South Florida community and look forward to serving up delicious food for the millions who visit Sawgrass Mills from near and far.”

The new two-level, 400 seat restaurant offers guests an industrial vibe with reclaimed wood, steel and brick elements. The focal point of the freestanding restaurant is the first floor, which showcases inviting patio areas with a stately wooden bar serving a variety of handcrafted cocktails for diners eating inside or outside. The second floor includes a chef’s table area which seats up to 12, tables overlooking the bar area and large booths that provide a cozy space for group dining.

Founded in 2003, matchbox serves an eclectic mix of American fare, including signature mini burgers, salads, wood-fired pizzas and hearty entrees, plus a brunch menu and happy hour specials. Chefs use fresh quality ingredients to create innovative and delicious menu options available for lunch and dinner.

Favorites include the 3.6.9. mini burgers, prosciutto + white Turkish fig wood-fired pizza, crab caked sandwich and the meyer lemon cake. Menu prices range from $6 for the farmer’s soup to $36 for the prime NY strip.

As part of the grand opening festivities, matchbox presented Feeding South Florida with a check for $5,000. This generous donation was made possible by diners who participated in the pre-opening dining experiences prior to the restaurant grand opening.

Matchbox will continue to support the fight against hunger through its partnership with No Kid Hungry, an organization working to end child hunger in America by connecting kids to effective nutrition programs like school breakfast and summer meals. For each pizza sold at any matchbox location, including Sawgrass Mills, 10 cents will be donated to help fight against childhood hunger, up to $75,000.
